Before we begin, a quick introduction: I’m Steph, an Arizona-based writer. I believe experiencing joy cultivates optimism, inspiring us to build a brighter world. I founded Sending Smiles to create a positive community. Thank you for taking the time to read. I’m happy you’re here!
Happy Fall everyone!
This month, I visited the Midwest for the first time. I saw my college friends who live in Kansas City, Missouri, and my childhood friend who lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I checked out the local breweries and bookstores and even rode a mechanical bull. Reconnecting with friends who I hadn’t seen in a while was refreshing. I came back from both trips bursting with energy and joy!

How Far the Light Reaches: A Life in Ten Sea Creatures by Sabrina Imber
“Imagine having the power to become resilient to all that is hostile to us.”
This book is a series of braided essays that weave together insights about sea creatures and the human condition. In each essay, Sabrina profiles a sea creature and explores her personal history. The essays do explore topics such as racism, sexual assault, and gender with an overall message that we can survive anything as long as we have a supportive community.
