We huddled together, waiting for the starter pistol. I repeatedly checked my phone to ensure my headphones were properly paired. Erin stretched her hips, legs, and ankles. Running 13.1 miles felt more manageable because my best friend was next to me.
We tried our best to stick together, but our paces were not the same. I felt surges of happiness whenever I caught a glimpse of her white baseball cap ahead of me in the distance.
